1. GENERAL SKILLS
I have developed a comprehensive catalogue of transferable skills which allow me to efficiently complete set tasks. As an urban planner, I require strong communication skills to liaise with multiple professionals and clients. My extensive assessment experiences have demonstrated my ability to interpret dense information in application assessments and identify issues and solutions to be resolved with the appropriate party. Additional skills include competent public speaking and presentation for an informative exhibition of information in an accessible manner. The abovementioned skills allow me to work in a multi-agency team as well as individually to produce the best outcome.
2. SPECIALISED SKILLS
As an urban planner specialising in social and community planning, I have developed excellent ethical research skills for gathering verifiable data and displaying the information appropriately. My skills include representing spatial data in custom maps created on ArcGIS (Computer Software) to display desired trends. I am also skilled in using collected economic data to generate a shift-share analysis. My skill in creating specialised displays of data are used my strategic report writing to outline current and future developments. My functional skills in social research and data representation are acknowledged in the urban planning field as they provide informed depictions of data. Due to the representation of the data, it is accessible to both planners and the greater community.
3. COMMUNITY FUNDING APPLICATION DEVELOPMENT
In conducting my social needs assessment, I have utilised my qualitative and quantitative social research skills to inform a statistical analysis that has identified minority communities experiencing issues in accessing their needs and solutions to improve their circumstances. My community-based approach to research effectively-identified the Bankstown-Canterbury LGA as a community struggling with migrant unemployment in which the provision of a Community Co-op would develop transferable skills and build needed social capital required in the workforce. Extensive research by literature reviews on National and global Co-op models and statistical analysis on the success rates support the implementation of the program by providing a basis for the framework. Canterbury-Bankstown council was chosen as a primary investor to support this program due to an investigation on currently supported programs, existing grant applications and the community strategic plan that outlines the desire for increased community cohesion and employment. My Community- Co-op intends to establish a sustainable program that supports migrant needs by fostering the development of employable skills through pro-social volunteer work.
4. APPLIED DEBATING: DEVELOPING POSITION PAPERS
An applied debate allows individuals to participate in critical thinking. This is achieved by using reason-based arguments to dispute a topic. With logic and evidence, a particular position is strengthened, demonstrating how and why it may be superior to the defense. Applied debates have become a staple in contemporary society, providing a voice to topics at diverse scales. When creating my position paper, I developed skills in sourcing verifiable date that allowed me to create valid and sound arguments that support my position. In creating valid arguments, I have encouraged comprehensive and inclusive decision making. The skills I have developed strengthen my capabilities in advocacy and lobbying through multiple mediums, including position papers.
